Chapter Housing and COVID-19

Chapter Housing and COVID-19 for Fall 2020

It is clear the pandemic, which has disrupted every aspect of daily life, has left its mark on our colleges and universities as well as our Alpha Delta Pi facilities. Each house corporation has shown its commitment to our members by continuing to create safe homes where everyone can feel secure and supported as we navigate new expectations and procedures in this COVID-19-aware world. Alpha Delta Pi’s Housing Resource Directors and Housing staff are thrilled to welcome our members home for fall of 2020! We have missed you!

Operational Decisions for Housing. As Alpha Delta Pi’s local house corporations are their own legal separate entities from Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, our local house corporations are solely responsible for the operational decisions regarding each facility. The house corporation board will drive the process and set facility protocols as to how they, as the property owner/manager, want to handle/address/abide by university, local, state, federal & CDC guidelines for their location. Please know that our house corporations’ commitment to opening facilities is closely tied to the on-campus educational experience offered through each college/university. With that in mind, each house corporation will do all that can be done to prepare the facility for standard operations.

New guidance surrounding life within our homes has been provided to our house corporations by the International Organization in an effort to guide our membership. Guidance has been provided to minimize contact, enhance cleanliness, and keep those who may be most at risk safe. Our house corporations have the ability to provided regimented cleaning, know who is coming in and out of the house, and enhance the bonds of our sisterhood while being socially distant. All facility opening decisions will be in accordance with university guidelines and policy as currently stated, as well as within the bounds of any federal, state, or local directives that may be in place.

Financial Considerations. Our house corporations have worked very hard evaluating the financial impact of housing closures last spring and capacity adjustments and academic calendar alterations this fall. This process also includes consideration of employees, external contracts, increased cleaning and sanitization expenses, and overall budget needs. As Alpha Delta Pi chapter facilities are home to close to 4,000 members across the country, please know that we continue to monitor the needs of our members and their families in conjunction with the requirements of the facilities for which our members call home.

Move-In Status. While the closures last spring were a necessity for our community to keep as many safe as possible, it is now our opportunity to begin anew with a new measure of security. It is unclear what the new school year may bring, but our house corporations will manage any possible challenges that arise with your support. If your chapter has a local house corporation, they will be, if they have not already, communicating the process for moving into the facility. These details are determined by each local house corporation; please direct any questions around such directly to the local house corporation. You will find a list of our house corporations and contact emails here.

Living in the chapter house may look or feel different than in years past, but the sisterhood will be resilient. We are committed to housing our extraordinary members who are on the path of future leadership. We look forward to welcoming you home!
